Career journey
Jake Sullivan
- Started as
- Local delivery driver
- Now
- Depot supervisor
“I used to run the route. Now I help the crew run theirs.”
-
Started as
Jake began on local delivery runs, working his way up to bulk and dangerous goods work. He was known as the driver who turned up early, kept his truck spotless and helped newer drivers find their feet.
-
Now
As a depot supervisor, Jake looks after rosters, safety briefings and the day-to-day running of the yard. He is the first person drivers talk to when something is not right, and the first to hear what is working.
He says the hardest part of the move was learning to measure a good day by the crew’s results, not his own.
-
What helped
Being trusted with more responsibility a step at a time, and a manager who told him straight what the next step needed. He also credits the drivers he worked alongside, who kept him honest.

Advice for someone starting out
If you want to lead, start by looking after the people you drive with. Turn up, be straight and own the small stuff. The rest follows.
