Capabilities

The core competencies that enable us to deliver

Anyone with a truck and driver can move boxes from A to B, but our promise goes further. We put critical solutions in motion for clients where the stakes are simply higher – and our core capabilities make that possible.

We call them The Alexander Advantage.

The Alexander Advantage

Seven core capabilities. One customer‑centric operating model.

Critical transport performs best when fleet, people, systems and planning work together. Alexander Group connects seven core capabilities into one practical operating model, giving customers more control over risk, service, cost and performance.

Fleet specification and management

Alexander Group operates a modern Euro 6 fleet across 11 strategic locations in New Zealand, giving customers access to capacity where and when it is needed.

We engineer safety features into the design of our fleet and configure specialised trailers, customer-owned assets and operating hubs around the freight at hand, the route and the service requirement.

That creates a more efficient and resilient network for our customers, with local capability supported by national reach.

Network design

Transport networks are notoriously good at concealing wasted time, capacity and money.

We assess routes, hubs, delivery windows, fleet utilisation, empty running and transport modes to identify where the network can work better. Driver fatigue management is also incorporated into network design, with operating models developed to support safe and sustainable driving practices.

The result is a practical operating model that measurably improves reliability, resilience and total distribution cost.

Safety & compliance

Our people on the road carry everyone’s reputation, and the safety of other road users, on their shoulders. We take that responsibility seriously.

Safety and compliance are embedded in our DNA. Our commitment is simple: to get every driver home safely, every day, while ensuring the products we transport are handled with the care and discipline they deserve.

With deep operational expertise and specialised staff, we partner with our customers to build safe, compliant and resilient supply chains for their products.

That means less risk on every run, delivered consistently.

Driver training & performance management

If you ask our head of people what our superpower is, you’ll get a pretty clear answer. Training, development and culture.

Our clients put their faith in our people, and we make sure they’re up to the task. We combine structured onboarding with customer and load specific training, and use in-cab systems and monitoring to help our drivers continuously hone their craft (and driving trucks is a craft).

And we can prove it pays off. Our drivers rank in the top 6% globally for Driver Evaluation scores through Scania ProDriver.

System integration & reporting

Every business runs on a different operating system. From scheduling to rostering, you rely on your systems to keep things moving.

So our philosophy here is simple: we work where you work. There aren’t many freight and logistics systems we haven’t encountered over the years, but more importantly, we have the structures and systems to train and orientate our people to yours.

We’ve been working with AI-enabled systems for over a decade, and see technology, automation and systems change as part of a wider commitment to continual improvement. Whatever the technology, our focus remains the same: making it work for your operation, your people and your customers.

We’re digitally well supported and resourced, so if we can facilitate data integrations that make everyone’s lives easier, that’s what we do.

Continuous improvement & governance

We’re proudly a second-generation family business with a robust governance layer and a track record of never letting ourselves get too comfortable for too long.

Our leadership team brings discipline and rigour from across industries, which shows up for our customers as a tireless pursuit of continuous improvement. And while we’re systematic in the way we pursue improvements, what really makes the difference is the ownership our people bring, and the culture that champions it.

Why Alexander Group

When the product carries more than just a delivery risk

Moving product safely is about more than getting from A to B. Every journey carries operational, commercial, reputational and compliance risk – and managing those risks is fundamental to how we operate.

For logistics, procurement and health and safety teams, the question is bigger than who can move it. It’s who can move it safely, reliably and without shifting risk into another part of the business.

Your product may need specific handling, route planning, segregation, documentation, driver training, emergency response processes, customer site coordination and clear accountability at every handover point.

Alexander Group supports businesses that need dangerous goods moved with discipline, visibility and care. We work with customers across bulk gas, LPG, packaged and bulk dangerous goods, specialist freight, linehaul, shuttle movements, port-to-site transport and dedicated fleet operations.

Our Values

Loyalty is a round trip

Critical transport solutions depend on the decisions people make before, during and after every goods movement. Alexander Group customers work with people who understand the freight, the route, the risk and the responsibility.

We are practical. We are accountable. We look ahead. We own the outcome together.

Our Process

Five steps from first call to continuous improvement.

  1. Understand the freight

We identify product class, volume, handling requirements, origin, destination, timing, site constraints and documentation needs.

  2. Design the movement

We determine the right equipment, driver capability, route, schedule, loading process, delivery window and compliance pathway.

  3. Confirm the commercials

We agree pricing, responsibilities, liability boundaries, service expectations and reporting requirements.

  4. Execute safely

The movement is carried out by trained people using appropriate fleet, systems and communication channels.

  5. Review and improve

For recurring work, we review performance, identify efficiency opportunities and improve the operating model over time.
