    Background

Inghams has always been passionate about putting good food on Kiwi tables. Behind every meal is a chain of processing, packaging and distribution, and the first step into that chain has to be right.

Inghams trusted Alexander Group to be that first link. Our role is to make sure their product begins its journey in the best possible condition, while the operation behind it meets the highest standards of safety and environmental impact.

Alexander Group runs a dedicated chilled and frozen shuttle that carries product from Inghams’ first plant to further processing. It operates continuously, five days a week. Everything that follows, from processing and packaging to distribution, depends on product arriving on time and in prime condition.

    The challenge

    Why the first step matters

    • Product has to reach further processing in the condition it left the plant, so temperature control and food safety come first.
    • Every load carries regulatory requirements, and each one has to be met every time.
    • The factory runs to a production schedule, so truck availability and timing have to fit around it.
    • A gap at this point is felt at every stage after it.

    Our solution

    How Alexander Group delivers

    • Dedicated drivers who know the operation
    • Fleet tailored to chilled and frozen work
    • Loads and timing planned around Inghams’ production process
    • Food safety and regulatory standards built into daily operations
    • Reporting and metrics that enable decision-making and continuous improvement

    The outcome

    Safety and environmental impact

Inghams holds itself to high standards on safety and on environmental impact, and Alexander Group works to the same measures.

As part of that shared commitment, the two companies piloted a dual-fuel fleet on live shuttle routes, exploring how lower-emission fuelling could work in refrigerated food transport. Further initiatives, planning, load-balancing and fleet optimisation have seen further reductions in emissions across the operation.

In their words

I can honestly say that since being with Alexanders, the headaches have disappeared and our whole business is more effective, efficient, and safer having engaged with them as a supplier.
