Alexander Group & BOC: building dangerous-goods logistics capability over more than two decades.

The BOC relationship is one of our longest and most strategic customer partnerships. It began in 2002 as a South Island bulk distribution contract and grew into a national, multi-modal dangerous-goods transport and logistics relationship.

  1. Alexander Group truck carrying an ISO tank in snow

    01

    Background

The relationship started in 2002 with the South Island bulk distribution contract. Over two decades it expanded across New Zealand to cover bulk gases, ISO containers, inter-island linehaul and metro cylinder distribution.

BOC's network involved high-risk products, specialist equipment, national reach and strict compliance requirements.

  2. Alexander Group Scania towing a hydrogen tube trailer

    02

    The challenge

As BOC's network grew and changed, the transport task became more complex and needed more than freight capacity.

BOC needed a partner that could design around its footprint, consolidate fragmented carrier arrangements, handle high-risk product movements, and maintain strong safety and compliance standards across multiple modes and locations.

  3. Forklift and BOC truck at a South Island depot

    Our solution

The partnership grew from one regional contract into a nationwide logistics relationship across several dangerous-goods transport streams. We built capability over time, including ISO handling and multi-modal rail, coastal shipping and export solutions aimed at a more efficient end-to-end supply chain.

The partnership also created long-term career paths for staff who moved from frontline roles into scheduling, supervision, training and operations leadership.
